Circulating Oil Systems provide continuous flow of liquid to bearings, gearboxes, and blowers. They circulate various liquids such as oils, synthetic lubricants, ethylene glycol, and jet fuel.  Circulating Oil Systems are commonly used for heavily loaded bearings operating at high speeds and temperatures.  They are suitable for use in extremely dirty and corrosive environments.

This Circulating Oil system is for illustrative purposes only and cannot be quoted without information specific to the customer’s requirements.

This example design features a 10 gallon tank constructed with welded 16 gage steel.  A top filler cap makes filling the tank quick and simple.  The filler cap is equipped with an air filter and liquid strainer to help maintain liquid quality.  A baffle in the tank separates sediment and reduces turbulence.  There is an 88 micron in-line filter as well as a 100 mesh suction filter inside the tank to filter larger debris.  A liquid level gage on the outside of the tank allows visual check of liquid level and condition at a glance.

There are (2) 1/2” female NPT drains on the bottom of the unit with pipe plugs installed; the drains are extended with pipes at a 90° angle to allow easy access.  There are also (2) 1” female NPT returns, one on the front of the unit and one on the back of the unit.  Both returns have a pipe plug installed.

The flow rate of this Circulating Oil System is 2 gallons per minute.  There is a 3/8” female NPT outlet.  The 1/3 HP motor is operated by single phase power at 115V/60Hz (other voltages and frequencies are available).

The pump and piping is iron.  A brass check valve allows fluid to flow in only one direction.  An adjustable automatic bypass control ensures that any excess flow is diverted to the reservoir.  There is a 2 1/2” diameter pressure gage to monitor system pressure.  The unit tolerates up to 225° F and has a 750 SSU maximum.

Total height of the unit is 30”, total width is 20”, and depth is 12”.  There are (4) 17/32” mounting holes on the bottom bracket.  The 1/4” thick steel top cover plate is removable for cleaning.

This Circulating Oil System is custom built to requirements.  Some common additional options include dual pumps to ensure a back up pump is in place, and dual filters to allow one filter to be serviced while maintaining system operation using the duplicate filter.   Heat exchangers, either air cooled or water cooled, can remove heat.  Heaters can also be provided to maintain a certain liquid temperature or assist in cold weather start-ups.  Pressure regulating devices, pressure switches, low level switches, and filter condition alarms are also available.  The Circulating Oil System shown in the photo features a single pump, dual filters, and water cooled heat exchanger.

Liquid is supplied to the bearing by pressure specified by the customer.  Typical pressure ranges are between 7-35 PSI.  Liquid is normally returned to the reservoir by gravity.  Adequately sized return lines are necessary with vents to provide a free flow of return liquid back to the reservoir.  Flow sights are often used to monitor the return liquid flow, as well as sight feed valves and control valves to adjust and regulate liquid flow into the bearing.

All Circulating Oil Systems are quoted specifically to customer requirements.  Pricing can be determined only after the Circulating Oil System Request Form (found on this page) is completed.  Contact the bearing manufacturer for information on the flow rate and fluid required.
